Barack Obama's latest pledge to dismiss old George W. Bush legislation barring federal funding from embryonic stem cell researchhas galvanized this unique slice of the biotech sector. The proposal expands the research and development trough from venture and private capital to the limitless pockets of our U.S. Treasury. Stem cell research is the latest movement to captivate Wall-Street.

Fortunes have already been bankrolled courtesy of the rhetoric.

Stem Cell Stocks Skyrocket on Obama Policy

Geron Corporation (NASDAQ GM: GERN) is the first company to achieve government approval to initiate human embryonic stem cell therapy and shares exploded to a 16.54% gain - the Monday, March 9, 2009 of the Obama announcement. Stemcells, Incorporated appropriately features the symbol STEM and also launched itself upwards by 43%. Of course, both stocks trade for less than $5 and carry market valuations under $500 million.

The entire stem-cell / biotech complex has emerged as the latest arena for hyper speculation since Election Day. The gains are unreal and based upon hopes and prayers - rather than any form of material production. Geron, for example, has oscillated sharply from $80 to $1.95 over the past decade with every newfangled "breakthrough" research introduced, Democratic congressional seat won, and Barack Obama stem cell stump speech.

Avoid Stem Cell Stocks

Despite the legislation and ferocious gains - I would advise against wading into this boom and bust arena. The majority of stem cell stocks are micro-caps, carrying market capitalizations of less than $50 million and by nature are privy to wild price swings at-best and blatant market manipulation at-best. Certainly, the amount of individuals that maintain true knowledge of this stem-cell research endeavor are few and far between.

Choosing to invest in Micro-cap shares with no profits that rely upon the passing of controversial legislation to erect a fledgling, monetized industry out of nothing and based upon complicated scientific theory is a recipe for complete disaster.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida, has scenic locales that are often described as "old Florida". On the beach side is the Atlantic Ocean, and on the mainland side is the Indian River, which make the town of New Smyrna Beach extraordinarily beautiful. The simplest of locations offer breathtaking scenery, and the convenient access to the Intra-coastal Waterway makes N.S.B. a boat lover's dream.

On the north causeway of N.S.B. on the mainland, is one of the best boat ramps, with direct access to the panoramic Indian River lagoon, with water routes that lead to the Atlantic Ocean. Most boat ramps are nothing worth writing about, they serve their purpose and get a boat and boater to their destination of choice: the water. But in N.S.B., there is no such thing as an average boat ramp, for at the N.S.B. North Causeway ramp, there is a small park setting, two fishing docks, bathrooms and more.

The parking lot is huge. It can fit most cars and big trucks hauling various sized boats. There are two ramps in one, and directly to the left of the area is a small pier and a channel, where small boats easily glide through. This is under the pedestrian bicycle path above that leads across the bridge to Flagler Avenue. To the right is another small dock, and open views of the beginning of the Indian River Lagoon, from the boat launch vantage.

There are signs in the boat ramp area that tell the history of the West Indian manatee, known to frequent the Indian River waters. I have seen the wild West Indian manatee up close at this location along the Indian River. There is whale information as well. Apparently in the winter months, the Indian River has had various whale sightings too.

Past the boat ramps, heading right is a small bathroom facility, and a lovely nature preserve type area, with more views of the beautiful lagoon and a small children's park. To the right of the park is a long, hidden fishing pier, that offers the best views, a wide open space on the Indian River, where fishers can cast their lines in and wave to the passing boaters, who often give a wave back, comparing catches.

This is one of the best spots to view the West Indian manatee, as well as dolphins, which are a normal sighting all along the Indian River. Now that I know of the wale's that frequent the local waters in the winter months, there is no doubt I will be at the pier with binoculars in hand. The boat launch has something for those who want to experience a nice old Florida park setting, not just seasoned boaters looking to cruise down the Indian River in style.

Through stock market investments, it is possible to amass several hundreds of thousands of dollars in wealth over the long term. To do so, you must learn to monitor stock market prices and valuations. Stock market prices trace their roots to basic corporate structure. As such, stock market performance is a leading indicator for business profits and the strength of the overall economy.

Corporate Finance

At an initial public offering (IPO), a corporation will issue shares of stock to secure financing from investors. After the IPO, investors will trade shares directly between themselves in the secondary market. In exchange for putting up cash, common stock investors receive ownership stakes within the firm. As ownership stakes, shares of stock fluctuate alongside a business' profit outlook. For example, oil company shares should advance as oil prices strengthen. Alternatively, retail company shares will lose value amid recession -- when people cut back on shopping.

Stock Market Indexes

Stock market indexes gauge the performance of a particular sector of investments. In America, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdag Composite Index are the three primary stock market indexes. The Dow and S&P 500 are composed of large capitalization stocks, such as Proctor & Gamble, Bank of America, Wal-Mart, and ExxonMobil. Alternatively, the Nasdaq Composite Index largely tracks the technology economy, as it is composed of stocks such as E-Bay, Apple Computer, and Google. Your portfolio of U.S. stocks is likely to be making money on days when the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq are all up by more than 1 percent.

The Stock Ticker

The stock ticker stream price quotes for stock market indexes and individual stocks throughout the day. For individual stocks, the stock ticker stream begins with a ticker symbol, before it presents the price of the stock's last trade and its daily change in market value. For ticker symbol information, you will visit a corporation's official website and click on the investor relation's tab. To monitor the stock ticker and various price quotes, you can watch CNBC, or look up data through Yahoo! finance.

The Economy

Again, stock market prices and indexes are leading indicators for the strength of the domestic economy. A bear market refers to stock market losses of more than 20 percent. A bear market typically occurs amid recession -- when corporate profits are weak. In response to the recessionary bear market, the Federal Reserve Board is likely to lower interest rates. An interest rate cut encourages people to borrow money, purchase big-ticket items, and invest capital within financial markets. Because of these reasons, the stock market often advances after a series of interest rate cuts. When the economy and corporate earnings recover, stocks may post 20 percent gains, which is referred to as a bull market.

Investment Strategy

You will put together a diversified portfolio of stocks, bonds, and bank deposits to manage risks and invest for growth. Stocks are ideal as long-term investments, but can be especially volatile from year-to-year. Meanwhile, your bonds and bank deposits should provide for interest income and immediate access to cash respectively, in most economic conditions. You should increase your exposure to bonds and bank deposits as you age and near retirement.

Stock and Bond Investing - Risks and Advantages by businesspictures

One of the stock investing terms that you are likely to hear regularly is "valuation." Stock valuation is something that many investors look at when deciding what investments to make. Simply put, stock valuation is a measure of how much a stock is worth. A lot of the time, stock valuation is done in comparison to price. It is important to note that stock valuation and price are not necessarily the same thing.

Valuation v. price

Just because a stock has a certain price, does not mean that it is worth that much. The efficient market theory of valuation does posit that if a stock exchange trades at a high volume, and is organized well, the price will closely mirror the valuation. But this is not always true. Sometimes price is too high (over valued or undersold) or too low (under valued or oversold) for the true value of a stock.

There are psychological factors at play as well. As you know, the current economic climate makes it very difficult to predict the stock market. And swings in price are common as investors gain confidence or lose confidence in a stock or a sector. Indeed, these times can make it very hard for stock price to adhere closely to valuation.

Discounted cash flow theory of stock valuation

The most widely accepted theory of stock valuation (and there are many) is that of discounted cash flow. Discounted cash flow takes into account the issues of risk and other possible issues on future earnings. Discounted cash flow insists that there should be an accounting made for the time value of money, and it takes away risk from the value. This allows the investor to get a more accurate view of how much a stock is worth.

Buying stocks with good valuation

It is best practice to buy stocks with good valuation. This means that you want to invest in stocks that have a valuation that is close to the stock price. It is best if you can get a stock that is under valued. That way you will get it at a good price. And when the price finally catches up with the valuation, you will find that you have made a tidy profit.

Understanding The particular Investment Selection Buying and selling System

Trading Signal by sunsfinancial

In stock trading, you are up against the sharpest minds on Wall Street. To get ahead, you need an edge.

Insider Information
Insider trading is illegal, although still widespread.

Access to Information
Institutions enjoyed that advantage for decades by getting advance warnings from company executives. Reg. D put an end to that.

Faster Execution
If we all get the same access to the same information more or less at the same time, then it's the speed at which we react to it that counts. The edge is in beating the others to it - by a day, an hour, a minute. That's where trading seems to be heading: faster execution, lower commissions, more sophisticated online order entries.

There is only one problem: when something gets too crowded, it leads to diminishing returns.

"Dogs of the Dow" was a popular strategy in the 90s. Why bother with anything else when you can outperform the market by buying the top 5 or 10 highest yielding Dow 30 stocks? Once a year, or once a quarter, you roll your money from the winners into a new batch of "dogs." A lot of people did that. Every major brokerage firm rolled out its own version. Now every month somebody was rolling money out of their winners into the current dogs. The end result: the strategy stopped working, and the Dow turned itself into an underperforming dog for years.

You can't beat the crowd by running with it. If you want an edge, you have to look where nobody else does.

Despite what they teach you in school, not everybody can be above average, not everybody can be a winner. Trading is a wealth transfer mechanism where money flows from the many to the few.

Betting against the crowd, not with it, will give you that edge. It does not necessarily mean being a contrarian and zigging when everyone else is zagging.

Many proven trading systems insist that you never lose more than 10% on a trade. When a lot of people started following that rule, a stock declining 10% would trigger an avalanche of stop sell orders, causing further decline. So CANSLIM now suggests cutting your losses at 7 or 8% to be out ahead of the crowd. But now CANSLIM has gotten so popular that more and more people are following the 7-8% sell rule. The result? The selling avalanche now starts earlier but subsides before it reaches 10%. Your best bet is to either cut your losses even sooner (which happens more often) or put the stop back at 10%, avoiding getting stopped out of an advancing zoomer altogether.

So if most traders trade off an intraday, 3-day or 10-day chart, it may make sense to take a longer perspective. Most zoomers' runs last 2-4 months. By accepting a little more fluctuation, you increase your chances of bigger gains while minimizing short term trading.

How To Find Ge Handicap Ramps

Ramp It by Jeff I

Visiting Yosemite National Park is a favorite vacation destination for many . With the famous Yosemite view of Half Dome and the cascading Yosemite waterfalls dominating most park pictorials, these Yosemite mountain and water icons beckon photographers, naturalists, hikers, and anyone else with a love of nature to visit its natural splendor.

Many people who go here often choose to stay in Yosemite for several days in order to explore all the park has to offer. Without planning far in advance, lodging inside the park can prove difficult. There are many lodging choices outside the park, however. One of these places is Yosemite Lakes Thousand Trails Campground near Groveland, California.

According to Yosemite Lakes website, "Yosemite Lakes has welcomed campers since the 1920s...located only 5 miles from the West Gate of Yosemite National Park." Amenities listed include: Adult Center, Basketball Court, Beach, Country Store, Family Center, Fish Cleaning Stations, Hiking Trails, Horseshoe Pits, Lake, Laundry Facilities, Mini-Golf, Ping-Pong, Playground, Pool Table, Shuffleboard, TV Room, Volleyball Court, Wi-Fi Access." They offer sites for RV camping with hook-ups and several types of cabins, Yurts, and Tent sites.

You need to buy a Thousand Trails membership in order to stay here and, as a member, you are able to have guests stay with you in a limited capacity. Yearly membership starts at just under $500 and up.

Visiting the Yosemite Lakes Thousand Trails website, or the Thousand Trails Campground main website paints Yosemite Lakes as the perfect place to stay for visitors to Yosemite. During a recent three-day visit I had to opportunity to check out exactly what a guest might expect.

I chose one of the air-cooled TT Cabins for $105 nightly (one of 10 available)--with temperatures often soaring over 100 in the summer, it is highly recommended to choose a unit with air. The TT cabin is very small-about 150 sq. ft. of living space. This includes a small table set against the wall, with 4 chairs (unlikely you could fit 4 people around the table), a futon style couch that makes into a double bed, a bathroom with shower, kitchen area, and a bedroom with a queen bed.

There are several steps to climb to get to the front door and a porch where there is enough room for 2 chairs. One unit is equipped with a handicap ramp. Parking is conveniently located right in front of each unit. There is a ceiling fan in the living room and one in the bedroom for added air circulation.

The kitchen was equipped with table settings for four, a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, small coffee maker, toaster, pot and skillet, one mixing bowl, dish washing soap, and a few kitchen utensils. The bathroom was stocked with a small bar of soap, 2 towels, 2 hand towels and 2 washcloths. Each unit had cable TV but the system is tricky to operate. When you arrive be prepared to make your own beds (you will receive a plastic bucket with linens). When you leave you need to strip your beds and remove all trash.

The grounds are located near a river stocked often with brown trout making the potential for catching small fish possible. There is a fish cleaning station near the TT cabins and river access. The river bottom is deep mud in this area. There is also an area of the river behind the lodge that is accessible for wading if you are able to navigate rather short, but steep embankments down to the water.

The water in this area is clearer and more appealing than near the cabins. At one time, this was the site for the lake where they offered life jacket rentals, small boat rentals, and a beach for swimming-it is now long gone however. Only the dock remains on dry land as a reminder of why this campground may have originally been called "Yosemite Lakes".

Getting to Yosemite National Park took longer than expected. West Yosemite gate is about 5 miles from Yosemite Lakes Campground, but it took an hour to arrive at the entrance due to the stop-and-go backed up summer traffic on a very narrow, winding 2-lane mountain road (hwy 120). Yosemite valley was still another 24 miles after the gate.

The Yosemite Lakes Campgrounds offers a mix of pros and cons. While the TT cabins would be incredibly cramped with more than 2 people, they are charming with a "woodsie" feel. The river is beautiful and relatively gentle making wading refreshing on a hot day. The surrounding woods are gorgeous with birds and other wildlife (including snakes).

The staff onsite at Yosemite Lakes Thousand Trails were also a mix of pros and cons-from helpful and friendly, confused and incapable, to hostile and unfriendly-- depending on whom I talked to. Several occupants at Yosemite Lakes reported many disappointing situations to me in my interviews:

--Two units had ant infestations.

--You are only allowed 1 room key and if you lose it there is a $50 fine

--One unit had a broken AC (although the management rented it to them without letting them know or compensating them during weather of 97+ degrees).

--Several issues came up with reservation confirmations for a large party there as the staff apparently was confused about their own booking system. This party was led to believe that there were several amenities for groups that ended up not being available. This party reportedly spent more than $3,000 on their accommodations.

--Upon calling about my own reservation, the staff member was friendly, but unable to offer accurate information on what a TT cabin contained or what size of bed it had. There was no information on their local website about the cabin at the time.

--One person was threatened by security with a $500 fine for having a "covered, approved fire" because it was higher than 18 inches. This group was told they were not allowed to have any more fires by security.

--A person was threatened by security with a fine for hanging a piƱata between 2 cabin decks, 4 feet off the ground for 4 year olds who were celebrating (their party occupied both cabins).

--Several campers claimed the staff was rigid, rude and unhelpful.

--One man went to the small store on site and was told to "hurry up and get what you need we are closing" by the male store clerk

--One man was yelled at for going about 7MPH in a 5MPH area

--Trash receptacles were locked up with trashed piled outside. Maintenance had to be tracked down to unlock

--Most of the main buildings had peeling paint and old, worn accoutrements

--WiFi was only available at the lodge, not in the individual units or sites

--Gas was $3.99 a gallon and only $3.19 in Groveland just down the highway.

--The store on the property closed each day (weekend) at 4:00pm

--The miniature golf was void of anything except sun bleached astroturf and holes

--No prepared food is available on site (the restaurant is gone)

--If you stay here in your RV, be prepared to park in very tight spaces

--RV parking spaces are packed tight offering a clear view into your neighbors RV

After interviewing several guests and having experienced an un-welcomed feeling myself, my opinion about Yosemite Lakes Thousand Trails Campground is that it has lost much of its original charm. The facility has lots of potential, however, overall I was very disappointed with what you are led to believe from the website, versus what you get when you arrive. I wanted to love this place...but I couldn't, therefore I cannot recommend it.

I would recommend checking out other possibilities in the area when visiting Yosemite, rather than choosing Yosemite Lakes Thousand Trails Campground (Thousand Trails/NACO camping).
