Alt Attribute & Seo

SEO Optimization images is becoming more and more essential in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for websites. The ALT attribute is a critical step that is often overlooked. This can be a lost opportunity for better rankings.

In Google's webmaster guidelines, they advise using alternative text for the images in your web site:

Images:. Use the alt attribute to provide descriptive text. In addition, we recommend utilizing a human-readable caption and descriptive text around the image.

Why would they ask us to do that? The answer is simple, really; search engines have a similar problem as blind users. They cannot begin to see the images.

Many webmasters and inexperienced or unethical SEOs abuse the use of this attribute, attempting to stuff it with keywords, hoping to achieve a particular keyword density, which isn't as relevant for rankings now since it once was.

On the other hand, high keyword density can, on some search engines like google, trigger spam filters, which might result in a penalty for your site's ranking. Even without such a penalty, your site's rankings will not take advantage of this tactic.
This method also puts persons who use screen readers in a greater disadvantage. Screen readers are software-based tools that really read aloud the items in what is displayed on the screen. In browsing the net, the alt attributes of images are read aloud as well.

Imagine hearing a paragraph of text which is then repetitions of many keywords. The page would be far from accessible, and, to put it bluntly, would be found quite annoying.
What exactly is an Alt attribute?

An ALT attribute shouldn't be used as a description or perhaps a label to have an image, though many people use it in that fashion. Though it might seem natural to assume that alternate text is really a label or a description, it's not!

What used inside an image's alt attribute should be its text equivalent and convey the same information or serve exactly the same purpose that the image would.

The thing would be to supply the same functional information that the visual user would see. The alt attribute text should function as a "stand in" when the image itself is not available. Think about this: Should you replace the image with the text, would most users get the same basic information, and wouldn't it generate the same response?
Some examples:

Some SEO Optimization Tips

If a search button is really a magnifying glass or binoculars its alt text should be 'search' or 'find' not 'magnifying glass' or 'binoculars'.

If the image is meant to convey the literal contents of the look, a description is appropriate.

If it is designed to convey data, then that information is what is appropriate.

If it's meant to convey the use of a function, then the function itself is what should be used.

Some Alt Attribute Guidelines:

Always add alt attributes to images. Alt is mandatory for accessibility as well as for valid XHTML.

For images that play only a decorative role in the page, use an empty alt (i.e. alt="") or a CSS background image so that reading browsers do not bother users by uttering such things as "spacer image".

Keep in mind that it's the function of the image we are attempting to convey. For instance; any button images should not include the word "button" in the alt text. They should emphasize the action performed by the button.

Alt text ought to be based on context. Exactly the same image in a different context may require drastically different alt text.

Attempt to flow alt text with the rest from the text because that is how it will be read with adaptive technologies like screen readers. Someone listening to your page should hardly remember that a graphic image is there.
Please remember that utilizing an alt attribute for each image is required to meet the minimum WAI requirements, which are used since the benchmark for accessibility laws in UK and the rest of Europe. Also, they are necessary to meet "Section 508" accessibility requirements in america.

It is important to categorize non-text content into three levels:

Eye-Candy
Mood-Setting
Content and Function

I. Eye-Candy

Eye-Candy are stuff that serve no purpose apart from to make a site visually appealing/attractive and (in many cases) fulfill the marketing departments. There isn't any content value (though there might be value to a sighted user).

Never alt-ify eye-candy unless there is something there which will boost the usability from the site for somebody utilizing a non-visual user agent. Make use of a null alt attribute or background images in CSS for eye-candy.

II. Mood-Setting

This is actually the middle layer of graphics which might actually set the mood or set happens so to speak. These graphics are not direct content and could not be considered essential, but they're important in that they help frame what's going on.

Attempt to alt-ify the second group as makes sense and is relevant. There may be instances when doing this may be annoying or detrimental to other users. Then try to avoid it.

For example; Alt text that's just like adjacent text is unnecessary, and an irritant to screen reader users. I recommend alt="" or background CSS images in such instances. But sometimes, it's important to get this content inside for those users.

Most times it depends on context. The same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text. Obviously, content should always be fully available. How you use this case is really a judgment call.

III. Content and Function

This is when the image may be the actual content. Always alt-ify content and functional images. Title and long description attributes may also be so as.
The main reason many authors can't understand why their alt text isn't working is that they don't know why the images are there. You need to determined precisely what function an image serves. Think about what it is about the image that's vital that you the page's intended audience.

Every graphic has a reason for standing on that page: because it either improves the theme/ mood/ atmosphere or it is critical to what the page is trying to describe. Knowing what the image is perfect for makes alt text simpler to write. And exercise writing them definitely helps.
A method to look into the usefulness of alternative text is to imagine reading the page on the phone to someone. What would you say when encountering a particular image to make the page understandable to the listener?

Besides the alt attribute you have a couple more tools at your disposal for images.
First, in degree of descriptiveness title is in between alt and longdesc. It adds useful information and may add flavor. The title attribute is optionally rendered through the user agent. Remember they are invisible and never shown like a "tooltip" when focus is received through the keyboard. (So much for device independence). So use the title attribute just for advisory information.
Second, the longdesc attribute points towards the Link to a full description of the image. When the information contained in a picture is important towards the concept of the page (i.e. some important content would be lost when the image was removed), an extended description compared to "alt" attribute can reasonably display should be used. It can provide for rich, expressive documentation of a visual image.

It ought to be used when alt and title are insufficient to embody the visual qualities of the image. As Clark [1] states, "A longdesc is really a long description of an image...The goal is to use any period of description necessary to impart the details of the graphic.

It wouldn't be remiss to hope that a long description conjures an image - the image - in the mind's eye, an analogy that holds true even for that totally blind."

Although the alt attribute is mandatory for web accessibility as well as for valid (X)HTML, not all images need alternative text, long descriptions, or titles.

In many cases, you're best just going with your gut instinct -- if it's not essential to incorporate it, and if you don't possess a strong urge to get it done, don't add that longdesc.

However, if it's essential for the entire page to work, then you have to add the alt text (or title or longdesc).

What's necessary and what's not depends a great deal on the function of the image and it is context about the page.

Exactly the same image may need alt text (or title or longdesc) in one spot, but not in another. If an image provides simply no content or functional information alt="" or background CSS images may be appropriate to make use of. But if the image provides content or adds functional information an alt would be required and maybe a long description would be so as. In many cases this type of thing is really a judgement call.

Image Seo optimization Tips

Listed here are key stages in optimizing images:

Select a logical file name that reinforces the keywords. You should use hyphens in the file name to isolate the keyword, but avoid to exceeding two hyphens. Avoid using underscores like a word separator, like for example "brilliant-diamonds.jpg";

Label the file extension. For example, if the image internet search engine sees a ".jpg" (JPEG) file extension, it's going to assume that the file is really a photo, and when it sees a ".gif" (GIF) file extension, it's going to assume that it is a graphic;

Ensure that the written text nearby the image that is relevant to that image.
Again, don't lose a great chance to help your site with your images in search engines. Use these steps to position better on all the engines and drive increased traffic to your site TODAY.

Search Engine Optimization

The following is part of a multiple part series covering image optimization techniques. This article is intended for beginners through intermediate SEO’s; if this doesn’t pertain to you, you may want to skim as most of this will probably be review material for you.

Some of the big questions many people ask are why would they even want to perform image optimization? Doesn’t it just help people who want to steal or hotlink images? And is there really any meaningful traffic or links that you can get from image optimization? IMHO the answer is yes. Let’s say someone is going on a trip to Italy. They might do image searches for things to do or see in Italy and for famous Italian landmarks like the Leaning Tower of Piza, the Trevi Fountain, or St. Peter’s Basilica. Thanks to Google’s universal search results, images provide a way to get onto the first page (or, in some cases, the top result) and get a click through, an ad view, or adsense impression. It might even get a lead generation completion. Maybe you run a fish store. If a university professor or government agency needs a picture of a fish and your image result appears, and you allow your images to be reused in exchange for a link, this can be huge way to passively build links slowly over time (true story! It happened for a client I used to have). Now that we’ve got the why out of the way, let’s talk about the “how” of image optimization.

Filenames

This is one of the most basic elements of image optimization. If you have an image of blue widgets, I would name your image “blue-widgets.jpg” or “blue-widgets.gif”. You can use other formats like PNG, but I have gotten better results with “jpg” and “gif” files. You can use other characters like underscore as word delimiters, but I get better results with hyphens. You can run the words together if they are separate in other factors. I have found stemming plays a role (ie widget vs widgets), but you can get around it using other factors. I haven’t seen capitalization play a role, but I prefer to use all lower case because I usually use Apache servers and case sensitivity matters. If you are going to have multiple images of the same object-type, I suggest adding a “-1″, “-2″ onto the end.

Now, before the hate mail or hate tweets start, it is entirely possible to have an image rank without the keywords being in the file nameIF there are enough other factors in place. However, you should ask yourself why would you give up a chance to give a search engine a signal about what an image is about? If you work on a large ecommerce platform or other large database application, chances are good that your gold diamond earrings will have an image file name like “GDX347294.jpg” that corresponds to the item’s SKU or other internal classifier. So, yes, you will have to sacrifice the keyword for business reasons.

ALT Text

Let’s get the basic information out of the way: ALT text was designed for screen readers or visually-impaired people to know what they weren’t seeing. Your goal is to use it to satisfy the screen readers while being keyword focused enough for the search engines and without being a keyword stuffing spammer. Here’s an example of ALT text variations:

Keyword stuffed: discount hotel room paris france

ALT text only: Eiffel Tower

SEO optimized: Eiffel Tower from Louvre Bons Enfants hotel room

Striving to find a balance between pleasing the search engines and text readers can be a juggling act. If you are risky with some of your other SEO techniques, I’d play this on the safe side.

Headings and Bold Text

If image optimization for a particular image is important, I really like to optimize the image with bold or a heading tag of the term I’m chasing right above the image. I’ve found this really helps give a strong signal to the engines

Charlie Sheen’s use of technology and web 2.0 has earned him big dollars and a ‘winning’ formula for his own personal brand.

The Two And A Half Men star has greatly benefited from his own ability to embrace the internet, exploring all the marketing tools available to him. From breaking a twitter record, to hosting his own internet show on Ustream, the actor has done what few in Hollywood have ever achieved. Parody videos created by fans and websites dedicated to his one-liners are giving the actor non-stop free promotion and this in turn has created an audience of marketers for Charlie Sheen.

His infamous ABC interview gave birth to many of the viral video spoofs we have seen of his ‘radical’ behavior, which in turn, has fueled his twitter fan growth, and other media interview requests. With so many people discussing and sharing his antics, his own brand of controversy has been implanted onto the web, and has helped him sell tickets for his tour dates.

On top of that, Sheen’s regular updates with his fans on twitter provide a direct relationship and route to market. Sure that sounds a little cold, but he does have a following he can reach out to about his products.

Looking at what he did this week, Sheen took the next step in his own web fueled marketing campaign by making a self-parody video. This clever twist gave yet another viral hit to his name, as bloggers and social media re-posted and discussed how outrageous it was to see him spoof himself.

With many dates left on Charlie Sheen’s tour, the actor has a non-stop ‘Bi-Winning’ 24/7 marketing campaign, and other celebrities in the entertainment industry should learn from his online success.

Apple has reportedly become more aggressive in securing components from overseas suppliers, making moves such as upfront cash payments to both ensure supply and block out competitors.

Analyst Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities said in a note to investors on Thursday that Apple began "aggressively attacking" the component situation in Japan following the earthquake and tsunami that struck the country. The iPhone maker reportedly sent executives to suppliers immediately to ensure adequate supply of components, and also began offering upfront cash payments.

Separately, White's contacts in Taiwan also revealed that Apple is allegedly securing component capacity using what is known as a "three cover guarantee," referring to capacity, stock and price. Apple's move is seen as one that could potentially block out competitors and prevent them from building ample supply of devices.

The information comes as a separate report out of the Far East suggested that a one-month delay for Research in Motion's PlayBook tablet was as a result of Apple securing most of the available touch panel production capacity. The delay has forced the PlayBook to go on sale after Apple's in-demand iPad 2.

Last month, it was said that Apple could agree to price hikes in order to secure touch panel supply, particularly in the aftermath of the Japan earthquake. Apple was said to be in talks with component makers about touch panel pricing, and allegedly considered some price increases in negotiations.

In the company's last quarterly earnings call, Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook revealed that Apple had invested $3.9 billion of its nearly $60 billion in cash reserves in long-term supply contracts. He declined to reveal what components Apple had put its money toward, citing competitive concerns, but said that it was a strategic move that would position the company well in the future.

Analysts largely believe that the secret investment was related to touch panel displays that are the centerpiece of devices like the iPhone and iPad. One cost breakdown estimated that such an investment could secure Apple 136 million iPhone displays, or 60 million iPad touch panels.

It's a move similar to 2005, when Apple inked a major deal with Samsung to secure longterm supply of flash memory. NAND flash would go on to become a major part of Apple's products, including the iPhone, iPad and new MacBook Air.

Roofing Contractors Vancouver - 5 Inquiries to Think about

Roofing Vancouver - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Repair or Replace?

There's no opinion like an expert opinion. Most contractors provides you with a free estimate. Get a list of a few trusted contractors and phone them well in advance of when you wish to obtain your roof fixed to help you compare costs and opinions.

2. Beauty versus Practicality?

Discuss this together with your spouse or partner. (The children could care less...at least the children.) The fact is, nobody wants an ugly roof just like nobody wants to be viewed with bed hair. If you've got a good quality roof and you simply have to do the repair, it's worthwhile to pay the price of the original shingle instead of doing patchwork. A roof replacement doesn't happen very often (hopefully!) and so make a decision that suits you and your loved ones well or it'll stick out just like a sore thumb everyday you decide to go home.

3. Must i replace the rooftop so I can sell the home for more?

Think about this very carefully before making a decision. With respect to the roofing material you select, a new roof can last anywhere from twenty, fifty, to one-hundred years! This means you need to look into the year of the roof that's currently too deep first. Are you at year 18 of a 20-year warranted roof or year 30 of the 50-year warranted roof? Obviously, the quality is what makes the rooftop last longer, but when you're not likely to stay in your present home for the rest of your life, the larger expense might not be worth neglect the. Although a brand new roof can improve the value of your value, the rise might not be enough to cover neglect the and that's bound to hurt your wallet.

4. Is it a good idea that i can repair the rooftop myself?

Sure it's. Before you do, consult an expert first. You can perform it yourself, but you shouldn't be a complete ‘lone ranger.' With respect to the extent of your repair, you may or might not change your mind. Either way, it will help to get a professional eye on the problem first and perhaps even a free quote to help you do the math later and find out if it's truly worth your time, sweat, and money to become mister or miss fix-it.

5. When is a great time to find the roof replaced?

Weather may cause delays from days to weeks. Most people prepare yourself to have their roof replaced in the summertime once they know someone is going to be home throughout the day for a solid two weeks. Once you've this period in your mind, make a call to a trusted contractor months in advance to get a quote. Some companies get reserved fast and chances are, they're probably the most reputable. Planning ahead from the summer also provides you with time to discuss with many compare costs...especially if you want to possess the roof done by a particular date.

Tacoma Roofer: Help your house be Beautiful

Not many people view the worth of a solid roof, your knowledgeable Tacoma Roofing contractor does. From top notch experience, they'll be in a position to let you know the reason why you need a strong, secure, and leak-free roof in your home.

Your local Tacoma Roofer is well aware how important a financial investment your house is for you personally, especially as it is a lasting one. Your house might have been damaged slowly through the years and also you have to take steps to minimize this damage. For a number of people, keeping their house beautiful is also a few pride. You will find those too who'd like to turn their property into a cost effective and efficient living place. Your homes roof is a valuable part of your property and plays a role in each one of the aspects mentioned above. Because of this, you need to employ the expertise of qualified a Tacoma Roofing company.

Kinds of Roofs installed with a Tacoma Roofing contractor

One of the more prevalent kinds of roofs are asphalt shingles, steel or metal sheeting, fiberglass, slate and terra cotta tiles.

Each type of roof invites distinct problems, but they can all be easily taken care of by a trusted Tacoma Roofer. It's vital that you nip roof problems in the bud before they become too costly or dangerous. You can schedule a scheduled appointment using the Tacoma Roofer to take a look at your homes roof to see if there are any issues or potential problems with it. If there are, they might be able to let you know how to approach them.

A Tacoma Roofing company Helps to Build Strong Homes

The exteriors associated with a house, primarily the roof and gutters, face the onslaught of bitter and varying climate conditions, day after day. Painting, repairing, and cleaning gutters may be necessary. In some instances you might want to replace them completely. Usually, whenever your gutters show signs and symptoms of trouble, your homes roof also needs to be inspected for problems. Whatever issues there might be, an experienced Tacoma Roofing company can examine them in detail and suggest the remedy.

In case your gutters tend to clog all too often, or there are leaks along the walls of your home, it may mean that there's debris piled up on the top. Loose branches, piles of leaves, along with other light objects which are swept onto your roof during a storm can all contribute towards damaging your roof, which damages can be lasting. An educated Tacoma Roofing company will explain that birds, mice, and other types of rodents often build nest within the debris that collects on the top. While these nests may look rather innocent, they are great at collecting moisture, which can lead to loose shingles, mold, and indoor leaks in your house. Additionally, it may also cause vermin infestation. Following a storm, your Tacoma Roofing company will suggest that you inspect your roof for any signs and symptoms of debris or damage.

Reverse Damages with the Help of a Tacoma Roofing contractor

However top quality the rooftop might be, it is going to wear out with time. You will find shingles that are known as "25 year" or "30 year" shingles, but those numbers are just associated with warranty made by the makers. They hardly ever require that long. Realistically speaking, "25 year" shingles will not last a lot more than a few years. Within an area that's vulnerable to storms, shingles or even the entire roof should be replaced every ten years. With a Tacoma Roofer, the cost is going to be less than what you think.

If there you lose any shingles, or there's some damage to them, a Tacoma Roofing contractor can help you. Damaged shingles can result in indoor leaks, as the substrate from the roof becomes subjected to the elements. Shingles that are loose or broken can slip off and pose a possible hazard to people standing below. Missing shingles create a gap that allows rain, wind, ice, and debris to build up underneath the adjoining shingles, which creates a "domino effect" that affects other shingles plus they become loose or broken. A comprehensive investigation will be made by your local Tacoma Roofing contractor, should you give them a call up with your suspicions of loose or missing shingles.

Your Tacoma Roofer come in a situation to inform you what are the smartest choice is perfect for your roof. If your roof is not in a good shape, it's advised you have it replaced completely. The Tacoma Roofing contractor may take you through the various roofing options available to you that will fit your requirements and your budget.

Tacoma Roofing company: Enhancing your Home's Efficiency

Your roof shelters you against storms, sleet, and hail. By providing adequate ventilation, your roof protects your house from overheating, and by holding within the heat, it keeps your house warm. That's why you ought to prepare your roof from indoors as well as outdoors for any kind of weather emergency. A Qualified Tacoma Roofer can provide help in this situation.

First of all, inspect your roof thoroughly for just about any and all sorts of type of damage, prior to the beginning of the new season. The gutters should be clear, debris shouldn't be piled on or trapped under shingles, there should be no homes of squirrels or birds in the eaves or attic, and the roof should be structurally sound. What is Difference Between Commercial Roofing Companies From Residential Roofing Companies

If you are hiring a roofing company to re roof your house or building then you may be wondering what the differences are between residential roofing companies and commercial roofing companies. To begin with, the main one huge difference is usually that times a commercial roofing company may have signed a contract with and be obligated to some roofing union in in a position to work on union commercial jobs.

If this is the situation then their labor costs will prohibit them from working on non union residential jobs. Beyond that, if your commercial roofing company hasn't signed an agreement with a union they might be outfitted just for commercial jobs which of course means their workers and equipment may not be consistent with smaller residential jobs.

Residential roofing contractors in general tend to run smaller companies and therefore, are more in a position to bid competitively on residential jobs, which are usually small compared to comercial jobs. In fact, often times residential roofing contractors will run one man operations, in which the contractor that you speak with could be the one which actually does the work about the building.

Also, liability insurance for commercial roofing is more expensive and a larger bond is required for a commercial roofing work which can make it not economical for any commercial roofing contractor to complete residential roofing jobs.

Still one more factor is the fact that commercial jobs can run on a tighter time period for any quantity of reasons, requiring an industrial contractor to train on a larger crew or crews which again makes smaller jobs less profitable for them.

Distinction between Commercial Roofing and Residential Roofing

Did you know that the roof of a house or building includes a huge impact on the entire structure itself? Damage caused to roofs because of natural or other disasters causes a considerable lack of property everywhere. The type of materials accustomed to construct the roof that ought to be sturdy and long lasting, the way where the roof has been installed and even its timely maintenance are extremely crucial. There are two kinds of roofs which are utilized on all the buildings that we see around us: commercial and residential. Even though it might seem that commercial roofing is performed just for businesses or offices and residential roofing is performed for apartments and houses, in reality the differences are much more complicated than that.

Residential Roofing by jpignanello

Residential roofing is usually completed just by one hired contractor but commercial roofing usually takes a whole team to complete the task. This is because an industrial roof tends to be larger in terms of square feet than the usual residential roof.
Commercial roofs need to be made carefully keeping the nature and purpose of the building in mind. For instance, if there is a cafe or restaurant in the building then external components like ventilation systems, smoke stacks and pipes is going to be required. Residential roofs usually do not have such components other than a chimney or two at most.
Commercial roofs is commonly flat in design to support further changes at a later period, whereas most residential roofs have peaks along with other architectural features like roof gardens.
Commercial roofing is much more expensive than residential roofing due to the special tools, materials and safety equipment which are needed onsite. Usually the patching or maintenance jobs are completed in segments unlike for a residential roof in which the repair or replacement work could be carried out a short time. This is another reason why the equipment employed for residential roofs is often smaller and less costly as well.
Commercial roof installations have a extended period to accomplish in comparison to residential roof installations and therefore are usually constructed in large sections. During this phase however, it is important to ensure that there aren't any leakages, cracks or other visible wear and tear signs as it can certainly cause considerable damage to the entire building.
It is important to install the best roof for a building based on its purpose. Make sure that you hire a construction company that uses first class materials and has the right equipment to do the job or your investment risk turning to be considered a huge loss later.

The greater detailed a written bid may be the more helpful it will likely be for you to see where the cost are going to be incurred. Don't, however, pick a roofer based solely on the bid price. Any low ball bids might be tempting to take, but if they are low because of low quality workman ship it might not be worth it ultimately.

As the saying goes, you generally get what you pay for, so if you are able to afford a mid-priced bid it's always smart to increase within your budget instead of down. Additionally you should select your roofer based on how professional they were and just how comfortable you anticipate you'll be dealing with them.

Finally your cost will be different based on what type of roofing material you choose along with the cost to haul your old roof towards the landfill. 'Counter-Terror' Policy Targets Uyghurs

2011-04-07
A new report says China uses the threat of terrorism to crack down on Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

Uyghur men and women chat outside a mosque in Urumqi, July 17, 2009.

China's anti-terrorism policy deliberately targets ethnic minority communities such as Uyghurs and Tibetans struggling for greater autonomy, according to a white paper by a rights group.

The policy equates terrorism with groups pushing for more self-governing rights, is too broad in scope, and shirks international human rights commitments, said the Hong Kong and New York-based Human Rights in China (HRIC).

The paper looked into human rights concerns within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional intergovernmental organization which includes China and five other member states-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan-with a total population of 1.5 billion people.

It said the SCO approach to counter-terrorism, modeled on China'sThree Evils doctrine, and highlighting principles of territorial integrity, noninterference in internal affairs, and social stability, contributes to supporting repressive regimes at the expense of human rights.

A failure to demand accountability from the SCO undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the international system in countering terrorism and advancing rule of law, peace, and security, HRIC said.

"China's approach to counter-terrorism is the Three Evils doctrine, and it links terrorism with separatism and extremism," HRIC director Sharon Hom said in an interview.

"This Three Evils approach is overbroad, highly politicized, and while not exclusively applied only to ethnic minority groups, it is regularly applied to Uyghurs and Tibetans in its practice."

Hom said other SCO member states follow China's lead by recognizing Xinjiang and Tibet as inalienable territories of China and repatriating its ethnic minorities who seek asylum within their borders.

"China has enormous clout in the SCO, and you can also see it in the ways in which the other SCO member states and the SCO will completely parrot China's line and China's policy on these two so-called autonomous regions."

Treatment of Uyghurs

The HRIC white paper said it found "serious issues" concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs, including the principle of non-refoulement and potential use of torture during interrogations.

Regulations specific to Xinjiang became part of China's domestic counter-terrorism legal framework in December 2009 when provincial-level lawmakers revised the region's Comprehensive Management of Social Order.

Through the revisions, Chinese authorities were ordered to specifically crack down on the three threats of "terrorism, separatism, and extremism" in the aftermath of the July 2009 ethnic violence in Urumqi which left hundreds dead, according to official media reports.

HRIC called the amendments "unique" to Xinjiang, adding that "such singular focus by the Chinese government ... suggests that the concept of terrorism has been applied in a biased fashion, with the Uyghur community the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion."

It noted that while China does face real threats of terrorism, "the limited involvement of Uyghurs in terrorist acts cannot serve as justification of widespread repression throughout [Xinjiang] or the labeling of peaceful Uyghur activists under the rubric of the Three Evils."

Adherence to rules

But despite its reliance on the Three Evils doctrine, HRIC wrote, China continues to claim that it is acting to "firmly uphold and fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council," according to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Under U.N. rules, China pledged to oppose the "arbitrary widening" of the scope of fighting terrorism and identifying terrorism with any specific ethnic group or religion.

"The Three Evils doctrine undermines this principled approach and, in doing so, compromises human rights guaranteed under international law, and international counter-terrorism efforts as a whole," HRIC said.

HRIC recommended that Beijing narrow its "Three Evils"-based approach to national security and reformulate its definition of terrorism.

On June 24 last year, Chinese authorities announced they had broken up a "terrorist" ring of a Uyghur separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), after arresting more than ten of its members involved in an alleged major plot against China.

The announcement said that information leading to the arrest had been obtained through the investigation of 20 "individuals of Chinese citizenship" who had been deported to China on December 20, 2009-the exact date that Cambodia deported 20 Uyghurs seeking asylum following the July 5 ethnic unrest in Urumqi.

The statement also indicated that several of the alleged ETIM members had confessed to participating in a wide array of terrorist activities during interrogation.

Human Rights Watch said in February that the Cambodian government has a "dismal track record" of deporting refugees granted asylum status by the UNHCR, particularly those from neighboring countries such as China and Vietnam.

Ethnic tensions

Millions of Uyghurs-a distinct, Turkic minority who are predominantly Muslim-populate Central Asia and the Xinjiang region.

Ethnic tensions between Uyghurs and majority Han Chinese settlers have simmered for years, and erupted in riots in July 2009 that left some 200 people dead, according to the Chinese government's tally.

Uyghurs say they have long suffered ethnic discrimination, oppressive religious controls, and continued poverty and joblessness despite China's ambitious plans to develop its vast northwestern frontier.

Chinese authorities blame Uyghur separatists for a series of deadly attacks in recent years and accuse one group in particular of maintaining links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

Roofing Vancouver Problems

Vancouver Roofing

Within Vancouver extra care is needed whenever obtaining a estimate for a house. The roofing contractor in Vancouver must know exactly what they're coping with whenever taking your roof off. Unexpected expenses really are a common scenario within Vancouver and each owner should be prepared

Heritage- being among the earliest areas within the GVRD you can realize that there are some fairly old homes. With a high message roofing, probably in the vicinity of 12/12 pitch that essentially indicates 45 diploma position roofing. The original roof was cedar tremble sitting on taping. I don't know if it had been laid back or even the norm, in the event that everyone was trying to cut costs but if you have this roofing you probably obtained more than one layer on the top. The initial continues to be on and a pair of other layers sit down above the actual cedar shake. I have come across home exactly where five levels sat along with the house. Based on building signal now days the Vancouver Roofing contractor should eliminate just about all levels if a new roofing is to be placed above. A person people tend to pay much more due to the steepness, the couple of levels of roofing, the actual plyboard outdoor patio and also the difficulty. You may be two ft from your neighbors

Vancouver Roofing

Reduced Slope -- Vancouver unique houses operate all through East Vancouver. The minor problem with these houses in regards to roof covering is the fact that fewer and fewer roof covering companies available do tar and tiny rocks. The choice you've is torch upon or even steel. Asphalt shingles cannot go on these homes. Your own message is to reduced as well as asphalt most likely wouldn't last 10 years. Vancouver Roofing contractors that have been in the business associated with torch upon for more than 10 years are most likely reliable. Snow and ice develop on these types of rooftops cause mini swimming pools to develop on your roof and trigger major seeping, always keep the rain gutters as well as downpipes clear.

Low Downward slope or Steep Downward slope cedar shake - Within Vancouver this really is typical on the Western side. There isn't a lot to say about Cedar within Vancouver. There was an extended time period with the 60's, 70's as well as Eighties whenever Vancouver Roofing companies were not installing cedar. The majority of Cedar roofs are new building. cedar may be the 1 product that most issues can be established prior to the work begins

Low Slope or High Downward slope Asphalt roofing -- If you have asphalt roofing also it was not changed in the last 10 years then you have a good deck. Since the 1970's asphalt arrived to the market. With new building shiplap or also called language as well as dance was the only choice of the strong deck. Shiplap techniques a great deal during the cold months as well as in summer therefore plywood should be split down by the roofer

Roof covering within Burnaby

Roofing within Burnaby can have it's challenges and the best way to undergo them all is to work from Northern in order to Southern beginning towards the top associated with Burnaby. In North Burnaby the actual hills begin to slope and decline to some fairly strong angles. The large challenges I've found here are driveway steepness as well as use of the house, even though this may not appear to be a issue to you it is a really big issue for a roofer that has to hand have your old roof up a slope as well as hands have your new roofing lower the slope.

The hard, the downward slope region in this region kept building contractors aside and as a result you have houses that were just about all built by individually employed construction businesses. There are several portions associated with Northern Burnaby that have little contractors homes just about all built together however to the degree which Main Burnaby has. North Burnaby offers much more fascinating built styles as well as rooftops making a golf ball park figure estimate in this region pretty hard.

Burnaby Roofing

Main Burnaby is how big construction businesses with a regular new way of creating the house was fairly hectic during the 70`s as well as early 80`s. With a shiplap deck being the only real choice and asphalt tiles becoming the choice as well as placed on a home. These days shiplap is the roofers enemy due to the fact that the shingles of today are not made to work with shiplap. Attempting to convince central Burnaby they have to re-deck the roof along with plywood has often already been ignored and even for good reason.

The quality of shiplap is high in this particular area with many of it that I know of being between Six as well as Eight in . which is perfect. Apart from that this particular part of Burnaby is pretty simple to roof in with access not being an issue all that frequently along with a obvious style within sloped roofing that is clear to see. A lot of Vancouver specials centered right here to with torch on being the main choice from the unique tar residue and tiny rocks choice. Cedar roofs often sprinkle the actual eastern aspect of the area with most transforming in order to asphalt

South Burnaby tends to possess bigger roofs that are sprinkled with asphalt and cedar shake. Cedar shake rooftops in this area are generally through homes around 20 years aged. This particular home tends to convert right into a asphalt roofing and many possess alright access but some don't and the roofs aren't all that to high. Some asphalt roofs lower here have plywood patio's which is usually a big saving idea for any property owner

West Vancouver Roofing

West Vancouver is really a region associated with valley's as well as side rails, steep driveways and hidden roofs. This is often a roofing contractors headache but you will find roofing companies who work in the area as well as know what they most likely could be dealing with. Unlike additional cities within the City Vancouver region, big construction businesses did not purchase big tracks of land as well as build patterned suburban cul-de-sacs. They are doing can be found however to some smaller degree compared to additional metropolitan areas. Consequently you'll find in one road 20 houses just about all constructed in a different way. I suppose because of the property scenery it was the only way to get houses built-in some regions.

There was definitely a boom throughout the 1970's by the shear quantity of shiplap patio's out there. The majority of roofs within West Vancouver that require an upgraded tend to be asphalt roofs that sit on the shiplap outdoor patio. These people shingle is normally a interlock shingle that was made for shiplap but no longer obtainable in the Greater Vancouver area. Most home owners in West Vancouver are understanding they right now need a plyboard outdoor patio to pay for the actual shiplap.

tin mal mosque: cedar roofing and owl by scz

Several Cedar roofs exist in West Vancouver but not a lot that needs changing. The majority of twenty year old cedar shake roofs in West Vancouver happen to be changed which means you find a cedar roofing here and there. Replacing cedar with cedar is not the all to typical practice and many Cedar roofs are in new building.

West Vancouver Roofing

Vancouver special offers are not just about all to typical within West Vancouver. Torch on as well as tar and tiny rocks can be obtained although not suggested. The actual rainfall as well as wind tends to be a bit more extreme within West Vancouver, with the large quantities associated with trees and shrubs and the chance of a heavy snow fall metal is really a higher suggestion.

Obtaining a roof estimate in West Vancouver can be quite diverse from the person residing right next door. if you have a steep driveway, possess a roofing that's higher compared to Thirty degrees and over Two thousand sq ft than you are able to spend more than $ 2000 compared to your own neighbor. The kind of roofing and quantity of flashing can produce a huge difference. Within West Vancouver it is very hard to ball park a price with this very cause. I guess you could state in line with the small property you reside upon and the design of the roof could make all the difference between a high estimation along with a reduced estimation. Roof entry is a huge problem with some roofers needing to hand carry the old roof more than hundred ft than hand transporting the brand new roofing one hundred ft towards the house.

Get 3 estimates to compare celery with celery but for the same item, provides you with the ability to become knowledgeable and ask the right concerns. Most roofs within West Vancouver is below ventilated therefore make certain when you are getting your roof estimate you can see if each and every estimate you receive will upgrade your air flow or even your new roof won't final. The additional ventilation is not a add-on price therefore the much more the better, you can't possess a restrict upon air flow. Sapling debris is a problem therefore maintain your roofing with no damage the roof item. leak motorized inflator is probably the greatest form of maintenance.
